How to Transfer Saved Data From One PS3 to Another

Saved game data is easily transferred from one PlayStation 3 system to another. This can be done when the system needs repairing and the hard drive must be erased. Transferring saved data is also useful when traveling, or when you want to play a game on a friend&'s console. Depending on the model of your console, data can be saved on either a USB device or a removable media card, then transferred to the desired location.

  Connect either a USB storage device or a media card to the PlayStation 3 system. Removable media cards can only be used on two PlayStation 3 models, the 60GB and the 2007 80GB.

  From the system&'s main menu, scroll to the “Game” menu, then scroll down to “Saved Data Utility,” and press the "X" button on the controller. Any saved data on your USB device, media card, or PlayStation 3 hard drive will appear.

  Choose the game data you want to copy and press the "triangle" button on the controller. You will be given the option to either copy, delete, or view more information about the file. Select “copy,” and a list of any connected storage devices will appear. Select the one you want to transfer the file to and press the "X" button. The data is now copied to your card or device.

  Connect your card or storage device to another PlayStation 3 system for transferring. Go to the “Saved Data Utility” menu again and locate the data you want to transfer. Press the "triangle" button, choose “copy,” and select the PlayStation 3&'s hard drive as the destination.
