How to Create an Avatar for FIFA 09 for the PS3

Choose “Be a Pro” from the main menu of FIFA 09 and press “X.” Select a team you want to play for, such as Fulham, and press “X.”

Select “Create a Pro” from the “Player Selection” menu and press “X.”

Choose “Name” and enter a first and last name for your player, using the text box that appears. Press “Start” to confirm the name. Enter a “Kit Name” for the name that appears on your team jersey.

Highlight “Commentary Name” and press “X.” Choose from the list of names to select a name that will be called out by announcers during a match.

Choose a nation for your player to hail from. Your nation will determine your teammates when you reach the World Cup.

Select a position and role for your avatar. For example, you can choose to be a forward striker, left wing back defender or a left attacking midfielder.

Press “R1” to switch to the “Appearance” menu.

Highlight “Height” and press the left and right directional buttons to decrease and increase the height of your player. Do the same for “Weight.” Larger players are stronger on the field, while smaller, lighter players are more nimble.

Choose a skin color from eight available complexions. Choose “Hair” and select the hair style, color and facial hair for your player.

Select “Face” and change the size and placement of facial features such as eyes, nose and mouth by moving the left and right analog sticks on your PS3 controller. Press “X” to confirm.

Press “R1” to switch to the “Player Style” menu. Press “X” to select “Boots.” Choose the boots for your player from brands such as Adidas, Nike and Puma. Press “X” to confirm.

Highlight each remaining item in the menu such as “wrist” and “sleeves.” Press the left and right directional buttons to cycle through the options such as long sleeves or wearing wrist bands.

Press “R1” to switch to “Attributes.” Cycle through the categories on the menu. Available categories include “Attacking,” “Defending,” “Skill,” “Power,” “Movement,” “Mentality” and “Goalkeeper.”

Add skill points to attributes within each category that correspond to your chosen position and role. For example, if you are playing as center back defender, increase attributes under the “Defending” category.

Press “Start” to confirm your creation and save your avatar.
