How to Remove Scratches From a Game Disc

A video game disc, like an optical disc, can become scratched. Scratched game discs won't play correctly and should be fixed rather than discarded. Did you know that you can mend a scratched game disc using toothpaste? The scratches will be filled in so that the laser in the video game disc player will no longer skip over the scuffed sections of the disc.

Things You'll Need

  • Bath towel
  • Soft cloth
  • Regular toothpaste
  • Window cleaner

Instructions

    • 1

Place a bath towel on a table. Set the game disc on the towel with label facing down.

    • 2

Squeeze toothpaste onto the game disc, starting at the left of the center hole and moving around clockwise to the edges. Continue squeezing toothpaste until the entire laser disc is covered--a thin layer is adequate.

    • 3

Gently smooth the toothpaste onto the game disc with your index finger.

    • 4

Place a soft cloth against the left side of the center hole. Gently wipe the soft cloth against the game disc while moving around the center hole and outward to the edges in a clockwise motion.

Let the toothpaste sit for five minutes.

    • 5

Wipe the toothpaste off the game disc by using the soft cloth (clean side) outward to the edges in a clockwise motion.

    • 6

Spray window cleaner on the game disc. Wipe off the laser disc with a clean part of the soft cloth, again in a clockwise motion, to the edges. Dispose of the soft cloth.

Let the game disc dry overnight.
