How to Get PS2 Peripherals to Work With a PS3 Steering Wheel

The PlayStation 3 can create a realistic driving experience in car games through the use of a PS3 steering wheel. The game controller used with the steering wheel needs to have special features to simulate the other aspects of driving a car, but such controllers are available only for the PS2 game console. Getting a PS2 game controller to work with the PS3 and the steering wheel requires a PS2-peripheral-to-PS3 adapter that can be bought from a video game or electronics store. The PS2-peripheral-to-PS3 adapter will not void the PS3̵7;s warranty and will let you play driving games using the PS3 steering wheel in conjunction with a PS2 game controller.

Instructions

  Plug the USB cable from a PS2-peripheral-to-PS3 adapter (such as the PlayStation 3 PS3/PS2 Controller Adapter; see link in Resources) into a USB port on the front of the PS3. Plug the USB cable from the PS3 steering wheel into a USB port on the front of the PS3. Plug the power cord of the PS3 steering wheel into an electric outlet.

  Attach the plug from the end of the PS2 controller into the corresponding connector on the PS2-peripheral-to-PS3 adapter, Make sure the plug is well-seated.

  Turn on the PS3. Insert a racing car game disc into the slot at the front of the PS3. Wait as the PS3 pulls the game disc into the console and loads the game.

  Select "Settings" from the racing car game's menu using the PS2 controller. Select "Steering wheel" from the "Devices" menu. Select "Game controller" from the "Devices" menu. Press the "X" button on the PS2 controller to return to the main screen of the racing car game. Press "Play" to start the racing game game and use the steering wheel and the PS2 controller to play the game.
