How To Beat Cuchulainn in Final Fantasy Tactics

Cuchulainn the Impure, also known as Queklain the Tainted King in English versions of the PlayStation classic "Final Fantasy Tactics," is the first of the "Lucavi" demons that you must face as Ramza Beoulve and his team of heroes. The holder of the "Scorpio" Zodiac Stone, Cardinal Delacroix, is possessed by this creature and gains nearly four hundred HP, or hit points, and MP, or magic points. Because of such a high amount of MP, Cuchulainn's magical attacks are what you need to be most prepared for, but you can defeat him before he has a chance to inflict serious damage if you have the right party members and equipment.

Instructions

  1. Preparing Your Party

    • 1

Select your jobs and your fighting squad. Aside from Ramza, who is required to fight in main battles, you should fight with Agrias, who is another powerful main character; any warrior-like fighter, such as a knight, monk, ninja or samurai; and two summoners or one summoner and one priest. If you choose not to have a priest, one of your characters should have "White Magic" set as a secondary skill and know "Holy." Cuchulainn is weak against this spell and it can defeat him easily. Ramza should have the "Ninja" job, and Agrias is strongest as a knight.

    • 2

Equip Ramza with a "Defense Ring." This will nullify any effects from Cuchulainn's most-used magical attack, "Nightmare." If you have multiple rings, equip them to Agrias and your other warrior. Equip a "Triangle Hat" and a "Wizard Mantle" to your two magic users. Equipping a "Power Wrist" to Agrias will increase her attack power.

    • 3

Place your troops on the battlefield as far apart as possible. Putting Agrias and one magic user to one side of the alloted space and your warrior and other magic user to the other should work.

    Fighting Cuchulainn

    • 4

Make your summoner or summoners charge their most powerful "Summon" skill on their first turn. If you have a priest, charge the "Holy" skill.

    • 5

Use Ramza's "Throw" ability to throw a water, fire or lightning elemental ball at Cuchulainn from as far away as 12 spaces.

    • 6

Attack using "Stasis Sword," one of the unique, personal skills of Agrias, every time it is her turn.

    • 7

Use "Wave Fist" if your warrior is a monk, as it can reach enemies far away and Cuchulainn will nullify most of the other "Punch Art" skills.

    • 8

Heal as needed. Your "White Magic" capabilities will allow healing by use of magic, or you can set your secondary skill for Ramza or your warrior as "Item" and use "Potion" and "Phoenix Down" for healing. If Ramza knows how to throw these items, you can heal allies from afar.

    • 9

Set and use the "Time Magic" skill "Don't Move" if you wish to keep Cuchulainn in the same space for the entire battle. Continue fighting and Cuchulainn should be defeated in only a few short turns.
