Hardware
The PSP-1000 features a 4.3-inch screen, 32 megabytes of internal memory, an expansion slot for Memory Stick Pro memory and built-in IEEE 802.11b for Wi-Fi connections.
UMD
UMD, short for Universal Media Disc, is the primary method of playing games on the PSP. Each UMD houses a mini-disc in a protective shell that helps prevent scratches. Select movies also come in UMD format.
Wi-Fi
Using the PSP's Wi-Fi capabilities, you can play games with other PSP owners locally or online via a wireless Internet connection. You can also download select games, movies and TV shows from the PlayStation Store.
Games
Most of the PSP library is composed of PlayStation 2 remakes and retakes. PS2 owners will be familiar with popular franchises such as "Grand Theft Auto," "Metal Gear Solid" and "Tekken," all of which have been designed to accommodate the PSP and include PSP-exclusive content.
Later Models
The PSP-1000 was the first of several PSP models. Later versions included better screen quality, smaller system size and support for TV out, which allows you to play PSP games on your TV.
