How to Turn a Pandora Battery Back to Normal

The popularity of the Playstation Portable (PSP) had led many owners to modify the Sony operating system by physically altering its battery. You can restore the "Pandora" battery, providing you did not break any components inside the battery. Returning the Pandora battery to its normal state requires a soldering iron, so adult supervision is necessary if a child is involved.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a sheet of newspaper on a table. Place the Pandora battery on the newspaper with the warning sticker facing up.

    • 2

Insert the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver into the seam on the left side of the Pandora battery. Lift up on the tip of the screwdriver to separate the two shells. Pull the shells apart with your hands.

    • 3

Place the top shell of the Pandora battery aside.

    • 4

Clamp the jaws of the needle-nosed pliers around the front edge of the circuit board at the lower edge of the bottom shell.

    • 5

Pull the circuit board up and away from you with the pliers. Stop pulling the circuit board when the circuitry on the bottom is now facing up.

    • 6

Locate the computer chip on the circuit board that has the text "ICO4" next to it. Locate the bent pin attached to the computer chip next to the text labeled as "4" on the circuit board.

    • 7

Heat up the soldering iron for five minutes. Apply a drop of soldering iron to the contact on the circuit board next to the text labeled as "4."

    • 8

Grab the bent pin attached to the computer chip with the tweezers. Gently bend the bottom of the pin back onto the contact on the circuit board next to the text labeled as "4."

    • 9

Hold the pin against the contact on the circuit board with the tweezers.

    • 10

Place the tip of the soldering iron against the bottom of the pin. Remove the soldering iron after five seconds.

    • 11

Remove the tweezers. Let the solder now bonding the bottom of the pin to the contact cool for two minutes. Unplug the soldering iron.

    • 12

Unbend the circuit board back onto the bottom shell of the Pandora battery using the needle-nosed pliers.

    • 13

Place the top shell back onto the bottom shell. Place a piece of cellophane tape on the seam on either side of the Pandora battery that has now been turned back into a normal PSP battery.
