How to Open PSP Slim

Remove any accessories, cases or covers from the PSP console.

Take out the battery, memory stick, UMD and anything else attached to the PSP.

Clear a dust-free workspace while you work on the console. Electronics are sensitive, and dust can cause permanent damage to the system.

Remove the seven case screws from the console using the precision screwdriver. There are two on the top edge, one below the screen and two on the back of the console near the memory stick port. The remaining two screws are beneath the battery, hidden by a sticker that reads "Warranty Voided if Seal is Damaged." Place the screws in a bag for safekeeping.

Remove the faceplate from the unit by lifting up from the top. The controller buttons likely will come off with the faceplate, but the Start and Home button bar will remain on the unit. The faceplate also might stick a little on the bottom button bar.

Lift the button bar off the bottom. Pry it off by pushing the flat edge of a screwdriver underneath. Take care not to damage the connectors, or the buttons won't work when you reassemble the device.

Slide a screwdriver between the tabs holding the screen in place and the LCD screen itself. Be careful not to scratch the screen or damage the flex connectors. Once you've pushed the tabs aside, pull back the metal bracket.

Remove the screen. Slide the flex connector out of the housing and lift the connector clamps.
