How to Install CFW on a PSP Slim

Sony PSP firmware is the operating system of the PSP, and runs the device much like Windows runs your PC or OsX runs your Mac. Custom firmware is user-created firmware that allows your PSP to do more, such as playing AVI and MKV videos without converting them. Custom firmware also allows you to play homebrew games, which are free, user-created games. Installing custom firmware on your PSP is easy, but needs to be done carefully as it could damage your PSP if done incorrectly. You need a Pandora battery and magic memory stick to get started.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your PSP and remove the memory stick and standard battery. You will be using modified versions of both, so you do not need the original ones until you have completed the installation.

    • 2

Insert your Pandora battery into your PSP, which will automatically power up. Insert your magic memory stick into the PSP memory stick reader. Wait for text to appear on your PSP's screen.

    • 3

Press the "X" button on your PSP to install custom firmware. Make sure that your Pandora battery is at least 50 percent charged or you will not be able to complete the installation. You can see the charge percentage at the top of the PSP screen.

Wait as your PSP's custom firmware is installed. The PSP will notify you when the process is finished. Press "X" to leave the Pandora menu. Remove the magic memory stick and the Pandora battery, and insert the standard ones. Your PSP is now running custom firmware.
