How to Download UMD Movies

The Sony PSP portable gaming system features the ability to play high quality feature length films on the proprietary Universal Media Disc format. This format is similar to DVD, but is housed on a smaller sized UMD disc. While the physical format of media UMDs was deemed a commercial failure, Sony offers most UMD-released films for download through their online marketplace. Connecting to the PlayStation network store is easy, and can be done with your home computer or PlayStation 3 console. You can also connect directly to the PlayStation store if you have the PSP-Go model which lacks a UMD drive.

Things You'll Need

A Working PSP with Current Firmware
A PS3 or Home Computer with Sony's "Media Go" software installed. (Not needed if you have a PSP-Go system)

Instructions

Downloading UMD Movies

  Download and install the Media Go software from the Sony Media Go link below. Open the program once the installation has successfully completed. If you will be using a PlayStation 3 or PSP-Go system to access the PlayStation network store, you can skip this step.

  Navigate to the PlayStation Network Store. On the PS3 and PSP-Go the store can be accessed under the "PlayStation Network" tab on the media crossbar. Sony's Media Go software will take you directly to the Store interface once you have logged in with you information.

  Locate any movies you wish to download; note that you can sort by genre and title. Once you have located a film you wish to download, select it. You will be taken to a menu with information about the movie and you can choose to purchase the movie on this screen by clicking the "Buy Now" button. Note that you must have the appropriate amount of money in your PSN account in order to download any of these films. You can add money to the account at the download screen. Once the movie has been downloaded. you can access it at any time under the "Video" tab on the media crossbar.

Sony PSP
