Action Replay DS Connection Problems

Action Replay DS is a cheat cartridge for the Nintendo DS which allows you to download and input codes from the Internet which you can then use to modify games on the hand-held system. The cartridge is supported by a continually updated online database of codes and hacks for the Nintendo DS game library. However, if you run into connection problems between your DS and Action Replay DS, several troubleshooting procedures can fix the cheat cartridge.
  1. Fixing "Unknown Game" Errors With Software Upgrade

    • If you receive an "Unknown Game" error when running a new game with your Action Replay DS, the connection problem is between your cartridge and the game. You may need to update your cartridge's code list. Connect the cartridge to your PC using the supplied USB cable and launch the "Action Replay Code Manager" software. Click the "Software Upgrade" button in the top right-hand corner of the window (its icon looks like a Nintendo DS cartridge). The latest lists of compatible games and cheat codes will be downloaded to your PC; click the "Software Upgrade" button again to send these codes to your Action Replay DS.

Fixing "Unknown Game" Errors with a Hardware Workaround

    • If you still have cartridge-connection problems signified by the "Unknown Game" message after running Software Upgrade, insert Action Replay DS without a game cartridge connected and turn the DS on. When the message "Insert Game Cartridge" appears, remove Action Replay DS and insert the game directly into the DS. If the game is compatible with Action Replay DS, you will be able to select cheats at this point. If this workaround does not work, contact Codejunkies, the distributors of Action Replay DS: they may need to update the software to recognize your game.

    Fixing PC Connection Problems

    • If your Action Replay will not connect to the PC you use to manage codes and cheats (signified by the "Waiting for DS" error message), you may need to reinstall the Action Replay Code Manager software. Uninstall the software by opening your PC's "Control Panel" section and choosing the "Add or Remove Programs" tool (in some versions of Windows, this is found within the "Programs and Features" subsection of "Control Panel"). Next, insert the Action Replay DS CD and follow the prompts to run the automatic installer program. When the software is installed, click the "Software Upgrade" button twice to download all updated software for your device. Don't remove the CD from your computer's drive yet. Insert Action Replay DS into the Nintendo DS and turn the system on, then click the "Mouse" icon in the Action Replay DS main menu. When you see the green bar indicating "Updating" mode, connect the device to your computer using the USB cable. Make sure the Action Replay DS CD is still in your computer's drive: this will enable your computer to update with the latest drivers for the device, and re-initiate the sync between Action Replay DS and your computer. If you still get a "Waiting for DS" message, contact Codejunkies: your device may be faulty.
