How to Troubleshoot a Mad Catz Guitar

Digital guitars have increased in popularity as a result of games like "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero," where user interaction is required. Gamers use the digital guitar to play along with the songs displayed in these games. While these digital guitars are not nearly as complex as an actual guitar, they allow users to simulate the motions required to play an actual guitar. Many of the guitars for these games -- especially in the case of "Rock Band" -- are made by Mad Catz, a company that supplies (among other things) accessories for video games. In the event of problems with the guitars, copious amounts of support documentation is available directly from the Mad Catz website.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the back of the guitar to verify that the power switch is switched to the "On" position. The power switch is small and located just above the battery compartment on the back of the guitar.

    • 2

Open the battery compartment located on the back of the guitar and replace the three AA batteries installed. If new batteries were recently installed, check the batteries to ensure that they were inserted into the guitar correctly.

    • 3

Verify that the USB receiver provided with the guitar is fully inserted into the console if the guitar is being used with a PlayStation 3. The guitar and video game communicate via the receiver, so if the receiver is not plugged in the game will have no way of knowing that a guitar is present.

    • 4

Ensure that the guitar is properly synced with the gaming console. Xbox users should press the "Connect" button on both the console and guitar. PlayStation 3 users must press the "Sync" button on the guitar as well as on the receiver plugged into the console.
