How to Make Animated PS3 Themes

The Sony PlayStation 3 is one of the most popular gaming consoles today. Sony allows a lot of customizability of the console on the user's side. One interesting thing you can do is create a theme all your own to put onto your console when you are using it. You can add new icons, images and backgrounds with just a few steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Sony's PS3 Theme Tool

Instructions

    • 1

Download Sony's Custom Theme Kit. Open it up when it completes. There are sample images given.

    • 2

Open the sample images from the kit. Open your image editor and feel free to craft whatever you want from the samples or any other images you may have. There is a limit of 24 background images to a theme and no file can be more than 2 MB. You can also customize icons and the notification bar.

    • 3

Locate the XML file which came with the kit you downloaded. Right-click it and make a copy of it in the same folder. Right-click the new file and name it according to your theme.

    • 4

Open the "readme_e" file included in the kit to get further instructions on how to configure your XML file. When you completely configure your XML file, save it.

    • 5

Drag your XML file onto the "p3tcompiler.exe" icon in that folder. This will compile your theme and create the theme file.

    • 6

Plug in your thumb drive (or other media). Create a new folder called "PS3" and within that folder create a "THEME" folder. Copy the theme file that was created into the "THEME" folder.

    • 7

Remove the thumb drive and plug it into your PS3. Navigate to "Settings," "Theme Settings," and then "Theme." Choose to install the new theme. Navigate back to the "Themes" menu and click "Apply" on the new theme for your theme to take effect.
