How to Hack Rock Band Drums to Work on a Drum Machine

"Rock Band" is a music-based rhythm game for multiple home consoles that requires several musical peripherals to play. The largest peripheral is the "Rock Band" Drum Set, which is also very similar to an electronic version of the musical instrument it emulates in both size and usefulness. However, without a "drum brain," which gives the pads their sounds, the drum set is nothing but plastic pads for you, unless you download the program "Drum Machine," that is. "Drum Machine" leverages the use of the "Rock Band" Drum Set and allows you to use your computer as a "drum brain" and play the peripheral as you would an actual drum set.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install "Drum Machine" from the developer's website, which is located in the Resources section below. The program is free-to-download and is also compatible with the "Guitar Hero" Drum Set.

    • 2

Connect your drums via the device's USB cord or Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver. Once connected, Windows will automatically recognize the device and begin installing drivers for it.

    • 3

Start "Drum Machine" by opening the program from the start menu or by double-clicking its desktop icon.

    • 4

Click on "Assign Pads" to customize your drum set. You will be able to use your mouse to click, change and save the sounds you select for each pad. When you are ready to test the drums you have set up, click "Free Play" from the game's main menu.
