How to Stop an Action Replay from Saying Unknown Game

Action Replay is a third-party video game cheating device that has models for multiple gaming consoles. Action Replay allows users to activate cheats for most games that otherwise would not be accessible. Infinite health, zero gravity and infinite ammo are common types of cheats Action Replay enables. The device and interface are user-friendly but there are occasional errors. The "Unknown Game" error can be caused by several things, but in most cases it is an easy fix.

Remove the game from your Action Replay console and clean it thoroughly. Some times it is simply a dirty game. If you are using a video game cartridge, use a cotton swab dampened with rubbing (Isopropryl) alcohol to gently wipe the inside. If you are using a CD-based gaming system, wipe the CD gently with a clean, smooth cloth.

Check to see if there are any codes installed on your Action Replay device for the game you want to play. Outdated or lack of codes can sometimes make it harder for your device to identify what game your using. Follow the instructions in your Action Replay manual to connect your Action Replay device to your PC and check for the newest U.S. codes and updates. Install the new codes if any are found.

Boot up your Action Replay device without the game inserted and remove the device from your system when prompted to insert a game cartridge (Only attempt this on the Nintendo DS, it may cause damage to other systems.). You can then try inserting the game without the Action Replay device and the game may be recognized this way. If so, load cheats as you would normally and begin playing. If this step fails, you need to contact Datel Customer Service for support.
