How to Delete the Saves on a Nintendo 64 Memory Card

Unlike video game consoles made by rival manufacturers, Nintendo placed the Nintendo 64's memory expansion facility in the system's controllers rather than the main console. Called "Controller Paks", the memory cards allow players to save data such as their specific place in a game, high scores and other important information that would otherwise be lost when the console is turned off. There are two ways to delete saves on a Controller Pak, with the specific game determining which option you should use.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the Controller Pak in one of your controllers and turn on the Nintendo 64 while pressing down and holding the "Start" button on the controller connected to slot number one on your console.

    • 2

Use your joypad to navigate your way through the Controller Pak menu that appears if the game developers utilized this feature.

    • 3

Highlight the saves you wish to eliminate and follow the on-screen instructions to delete the selected data. The extra space on the Controller Pak created by this action can now be used to save data relating to other games.
