How to Hook a Rock Band Guitar to a USB Adapter

The PlayStation 2 game Rock Band utilizes a guitar-shaped controller to allow you to feel like you are playing an actual guitar. It's an effective way to simulate guitar use through a video game. However, you can convert your PlayStation 2 Rock Band guitar into a joystick to be used on your PC. This allows you to play PC games with the Rock Band guitar controller as well, creating a new gaming experience.

  Plug the end of the Rock Band guitar controller into the PS2 end of the USB adapter. You can find PS2 to USB adapters/converters online or at local electronics and game system accessories stores.

  Connect the USB end to an open USB port on your computer. The computer automatically recognizes the device. If not, look at the documentation for your adapter and see if you need to install any additional software or drivers on your PC in order for the adapter to function properly.

  Click "Start," "Internet Explorer." Download a keymapping program for free, such as JoyToKey. Install the program to your desktop. Then double click it to open it. Use the key mapper to set up what actions you want to happen when you push certain buttons on the Rock Band guitar controller.
