Equipment
To adapt a PS2 joystick to your PC, you need the following things, according to Hardware Secrets: one DB-25 connector/25 pin d-sub (male connector), five 1N4148 diodes, 6 feet 11 inches of 8-wire cable, a soldering iron, male connecting plug, PC, PSX Playstation joystick connector.
Construction
Use the 8-wire cable to connect the 25-pin d-sub directly with a parallel PC port. Solder the 1N4148 diodes into the DB-25 connector, and match up the pins of the joystick and the connectors exactly. After securing the cable into the proper ports, you need to install the joystick onto your computer. Click "Start," "Control Panel" and click on "Game Controllers." Click on "Add another" to install the driver for the joystick.
Considerations
If you use a Windows operating system, you will have to run installation files after installing the joystick driver. Hardware Secrets suggests downloading the Direct Pad or NTpad drivers depending on your system model. After downloading the driver, decompress the "install.exe" file and run it; then select "PlayStation" as the new game controller for your PC.
