Will Vtech Smile Games Work With Vtech Motion?

• The V.Smile V-Motion is an educational video gaming system that uses a motion controller to interact with games, a type of gaming interaction made popular by the Nintendo Wii. The V.Smile V-Motion, however, is not as advanced as the Wii, and is intended for children ages 3 to 7. Older children may not find as much enjoyment in the gaming system. The controllers have built-in accelerometers, which determine the movement of the controller and apply it to the video game. The V.Smile V-Motion controllers provide more physical interaction than other gaming systems by VTech.

Compatibility

• V.Smile and V.Smile V-Motion video games are called Smartridges. V.Smile V-Motion Smartridges were designed for use with motion controllers. Standard V.Smile Smartridges do not have motion control features, but are still compatible with the V.Smile V-Motion gaming system. As with the standard V.Smile gaming system, you place Smartridges in the front of the V.Smile V-Motion. You can also use V.Smile V-Motion Smartridges in the standard V.Smile gaming system; the motion controls for those games do not work with the standard V.Smile system.

Controllers

• The V.Smile V-Motion video game system's motion controller has all of the components of a standard V.Smile controller, including a joystick, four colored buttons for making selections and a large "Enter" button. The major differences are that the controller design is smaller, a motion sensor is included and the controller is wireless. Though you can't use the motion features of the controller with standard V.Smile games, the inclusion of the same button system means you can use the wireless controller with those games.

Considerations

• The V.Smile V-Motion comes with a wireless controller, but the system also supports wired controllers through a wired controller port on the front of the console. If you prefer the controller supplied with the original V.Smile gaming system, you can plug it into the V.Smile V-Motion gaming system to play V.Smile games. V.Smile V-Motion games do not work with the standard V.Smile gaming system controller.
