You unlock characters in Mario Kart Wii by completing the following:

Unlocking by completing cups:

* Luigi: Complete the 50cc Mushroom Cup

* Daisy: Complete the 50cc Flower Cup

* Wario: Complete the 100cc Mushroom Cup

* Bowser: Complete the 100cc Flower Cup

* Peach: Complete the 150cc Mushroom Cup

* Yoshi: Complete the 150cc Flower Cup

* Donkey Kong: Complete the Mirror Cup

Unlocking by completing Grand Prix:

* Rosalina: Complete the 50cc Grand Prix (first place)

* Dry Bones: Complete the 100cc Grand Prix (first place)

* Baby Mario: Complete the 150cc Grand Prix (first place)

* Baby Luigi: Complete the Mirror Grand Prix (first place)

Unlocking by completing other tasks:

* Toadette: Complete 50 races in any mode

* King Boo: Complete all 16 cups in any mode

* Mii: Create a Mii in the game and complete at least 10 races

Unlocking using a special code:

* Metal Mario: Enter the code "MARIO" at the character select screen.
