Classic Mode
The Classic mode of "Monopoly" on the Wii is played by up to four players who take turns moving their game piece around a game board. As players land on property they have the option to purchase the property after which any player who lands on the space will have to pay the owner rent. The goal is to bankrupt all other players by buying up real estate and developing houses and hotels on your properties for higher rent payments.
House Rules
Before you begin a round of "Monopoly," you may enter the options menu to change the house rules. The options for basic game play include the starting cash for each player, the money made for passing "Go" and whether you obtain a bonus for landing directly on "Go." You can also set the number of houses needed to make a hotel, the number of houses and hotels available to purchase, tax payment amounts and a bonus for Free Parking. For a faster game you can choose to assign a certain number of properties to each player at the start of the round.
Richest Edition Mode
In Richest Edition mode, all players participate in a mini-game that may involve swinging the Wii Remote or shaking the controller. The winner of the mini-game gets to pick a die and have that many tokens placed on the board with the remaining players following suit. Properties are awarded and stolen based on the number of tokens you have on the board.
Boards
At the start of the game you only have access to the Classic and World boards. As you succeed stamps will be added to the game's passport book, and multiple stamps lead to more board options. Six stamps will unlock the Future board, 22 stamps the Sweet board, 56 the Cheese board and 84 gets the Jungle board. The Ice board is unlocked after you obtain 112 stamps, the Deco board is earned after 168 stamps and the Cardboard board is unlock after earning 224 stamps, or one stamp on every property of every board.
