What Accessories Do I Need to Go With My Wii Fit?

If you've recently purchased a Wii console and can't wait to get back in shape with "Wii Fit," there's little else you need to start your new workout routine. You can get Wii accessories straight from Nintendo, at a local retailer, or get used accessories at a discount from local classified ads or online selling sites.
  1. Balance Board

    • The balance board will measure your weight, determine the quality of your posture, and serve as a platform for games and a variety of strength and aerobic exercises. The board is 20 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 2 inches thick. The "Wii Fit" game comes with a balance board (the suggested retail price was $99.99 as of 2010). Used balance boards can be bought separately, but prices will vary.

    Wii Remote

    • You need one Wii remote for basic functions like selecting options on the screen, but the remote is also used in "Wii Fit" training and games. For example, the remote monitors your movement in the jogging exercise, and it also tracks some of your arm movements during strength training.

    Nunchuk Controller

    • A Nunchuk is the least-used accessory in "Wii Fit," but it's mandatory for some games. The Nunchuk connects to the remote and serves as a sensor for your non-dominant hand. In boxing, both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk are thrust forward and back to emulate punches and blocks.

    Other Accessories

    • There are three other essential accessories needed for all Wii games and all come with a new Wii console. The power cord is necessary to connect the console to a power source. The sensor bar, which is normally placed above the television, receives signals from your accessories. The standard composite cable connects the console to the TV.
