Tricks & Tips for Wii Sports

Wii Sports is an interactive game title that comes bundled with every Nintendo Wii game console. Players participate in one of five sports--tennis, bowling, baseball, golf or boxing--by swinging the Wii Remote to mimic the motions used to play each sport. The best players learn a few tricks to master the games.
  1. Tennis

    • To make the ball more difficult for your opponent to return, put spin on it by moving the Wii Remote abruptly left or right in the hitting motion. Angle your shot away from your opponent by swinging the remote in the direction you want the ball to go. Finally, if your opponent hits the ball high and short on your side of the court, hit an overhead smash by swinging the remote swiftly at a downward angle.

    Bowling

    • Start by positioning your character slightly to the left or right of the center of the lane. Just before you release the ball, turn your wrist toward the center of the lane. This should send the ball curving toward the head pin, resulting in more pins knocked down. When you're faced with a split, position your character to the left or right and hold "A" to aim at the pin opposite you diagonally. Try to hit the outermost edge of the pin in an attempt to send that pin flying at the one opposite it.

    Baseball

    • When you bat, do not swing the Wii Remote too swiftly; a slow, controlled swing will yield better results. When you pitch, aim for the corners of the strike zone and mix up the pitches you throw. Flick your wrist fast for a fastball, slow for a change-up. Hold "A" to throw a screwball, "B" for a curveball and "A" and "B" together for a splitter. A slow and controlled pitching motion is more accurate than a wild one.

    Golf

    • As in baseball, slow and controlled golf swings are more effective. A fast swing often results in a shot that slices or hooks. As rules of thumb, a full swing with the driver will send the ball around 200 yards, and a full swing with the iron will send the ball 150 yards. A half swing will send the ball half the distance. Around the green, take slow and controlled swings for the best short game. As a rule of thumb, a full swing with the putter will send the ball around 30 feet.

    Boxing

    • Boxing is the only game on Wii Sports that requires a Nunchuk to play. To defend yourself from your opponent, hold the Wii Remote and Nunchuk vertically and lean to the left, right and back to dodge. Lean forward to block. To punch, swing the controllers vertically for a head jab or horizontally for a body jab. Swing in an upward motion for an uppercut. Make sure to control your punches, waiting for one punch to end before throwing another.
