Wii Bowling Techniques

Bowling is one of the Wii's most popular sports games. The most basic bowling games are featured in Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Meanwhile, Brunswick Pro Bowling, Ten Pin Alley 2 and AMF Bowling: World Lanes offer far better graphics but are really just fancier versions of the basic bowling game.
  1. Rolling the Ball

    • Hold the Wiimote next to your body. While holding the B button, pull your arm back, then swing it forward and follow through while releasing B, like you would if you were bowling at an alley and not playing a video game.

The harder you swing forward, the more velocity your ball will have. Be careful, though, because more velocity can mean less control.

    Spinning the Ball

    • Twist the Wiimote to add spin to the ball. Spin can create a lot of pin action, resulting in more pins knocked down than without spin. It's also effective in picking up splits.

    Lane Position

    • Adjust your lane position by pressing left or right on the directional pad. This is an easy way to pick up a one-pin spare when the pin is at either end of the alley.

Normally, however, your default position should be slightly to the right of center. This makes it easier to offset the natural curve of the ball when rolled.

    Angling the Ball

    • Press the A button to throw the ball at an angle, then use the left and right buttons on the D-Pad to find an angle in which you are comfortable. This also can help when picking up splits, which are very difficult.

When faced with a split, try curving the ball to make it hit both pins, or try making one of the pits hit the other.

    Wii Sports Resort

    • This bowling game offers a useful technique for beginners. When using the automatic mode, the ball will leave your hand while you are holding down the B button.

A manual mode is available for more advanced players, or for those who have played Wii bowling games before. When you roll the ball in manual mode, you must release B when you want your ball to leave your hand.
