How to Play Madden 08 on the Wii

The Madden franchise has had one of the best selling videos game each year for nearly as long as it has been around. Madden 08 on the Wii is the second installment of the franchise on Nintendo's motion-sensing console. The game's motion controls may take a bit to get used to, but the game is fairly intuitive and with a little practice you can play Madden 08 on the Wii.

Instructions

    • 1

Start your practice on offense. Pick a play, either a running or passing play, and wait until your team gets to the line of scrimmage. Once on the line of scrimmage, you get your first taste of the motion control. Pull the Wii remote back toward you to hike the ball. If you want to fake snap, hold the "Z" button and make the snapping motion.

    • 2

Drop back and pass with a pass play. Use the analog stick on the nunchuck to control your quarterback. Pick which receiver you want to throw to, designated by either up, down, left or right on the directional pad, or by the "A" button. Hold the receiver button and flick the Wii remote away from you to deliver your pass. If you flick the remote harder, you will throw a bullet pass, while a softer flick will give you more of a lob.

    • 3

Catch the ball. You can let the computer control this aspect for you, but if you are a control freak or playing with someone else on the same team, it's important to know how to catch the ball. Raise both the Wii remote and the nunchuck straight up to have your receiver reach up for the ball. You can also pull the controllers in toward your body to have your receiver catch the ball and pull it in to his body.

    • 4

Run down the defense's throat. After you snap the ball on a run play, the quarterback will automatically hand it off to the running back. Use the analog stick to control your runner, the "A" button to spin, the "B" button to sprint and the "Z" button to dive. You can also stiff arm by moving your Wii remote either left or right and you can juke by moving your nunchuck left or right.

    • 5

Master your defensive moves. Move the Wii remote left or right while running at a blocker to make a rip or swim move to get through to the ball carrier. Hold the Wii remote up and swat it forward to swat a ball and prevent a reception. Raise both controllers up to attempt to intercept the ball. Lay on a big hit by thrusting the Wii remote forward when lined up with the ball carrier.

Learn to kick. Kickoffs, punts and field goals all use the same mechanic. Line up your kick with the analog stick, and then point the Wii remote down, hold the "A" button and swing the Wii remote up. The straightness of the movement will determine accuracy and the speed of the movement determines power.
