Preparing to Browse
You need the Internet Channel for the Wii to access the Web using your game console. The Internet Channel is available as a free download in the Wii Shop Channel. You must also setup your Wii's connection to the Internet. From the Wii's main menu, click the "Wii" button and navigate to the Wii Settings section. Scroll to the second page of settings, and click on the "Internet" button. Provide the required information for your wired or wireless Internet connection.
Browsing the Internet
The Internet Channel is a version of the Opera Web browser and is available from the Wii main menu. Launch the channel to connect to the Internet, and click on the "Web Address" button. Use your Wii remote and the on-screen keyboard to type in the address of the website you want to visit. You can also load a website from your favorites or search the Internet.
Using Facebook
Click on the "Web Address" button in the Internet Channel, and type in "www.facebook.com" to visit Facebook using the Wii. It can take several seconds for Facebook to load, and Facebook uses Internet technologies that the Wii's Internet Channel doesn't support. Alternatively, visit one of the Facebook websites created for use on mobile and touch-screen devices. These websites use single column layouts and focus on the most essential Facebook features for faster loading times and simplified use. The mobile website is available at m.facebook.com and the touch-screen website is at touch.facebook.com.
Limitations
You can perform similar actions on Facebook whether you use the full, mobile or touch-screen versions. You can read and send private messages, update your status and read friends' updates, add and confirm new friends, view photos and visit links shared by friends. However, advanced features such as chat aren't available. Depending on your television, you may find that the font when browsing the Internet using a Wii is too small and unclear. For the best results, connect your Wii to a television using a high-definition component cable.
