WW2 Wii Games

Although the Wii is most famous for its selection of sports and activity games, it also features a broad range of games taking place in World War II scenarios. Although first person shooter (FPS) games are one of the most popular categories, plenty of Wii's World War II titles enable you to fly historical airplanes or drive military vehicles into battle.
  1. Western Front

    • The Western Front of World War II is one of the most popular settings for computer war games, and this is no different for the Wii. A good example is the game "Medal of Honor: Heroes 2," where the player plays through the Battle of Cherbourg over seven missions. The game also features an extensive online capacity, enabling players to compete against each other in several modes (such as "deathmatch" and "infiltration"). Other Wii games set within the Western Front include "Brothers in Arms: Double Time" and "Call of Duty 3," with the latter enabling the player to play through British, French, Canadian and Polish military campaigns.

    Pacific Front

    • Games portraying the Pacific Front usually deal with battles for small islands, naval assaults and airplane missions. One Wii title that takes place in this setting is "The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific." This first-person shooter game allows the player to take part in historical conflicts such as the Battle of Corregidor and the Battle of Iwo Jima within beach and jungle environments, using recreations of real-life weapons such as the M1 Garand rifle and the Japanese Type 44 carbine.

    Flying Simulator

    • Although flying simulators are generally less popular than shooting-style games, the Wii provides some titles aimed towards players who enjoy piloting historical aircraft. With more than 70 missions to choose from, "WWII Aces" is a great title for players who want a high degree of variety. Players can fly 12 different planes, including the Mosquito bomber, the Stuka and a range of other planes from the German, English and Russian forces. Missions require you to master dropping paratroopers, supporting other air units and carrying out strategic bombing runs. Another World War II flying simulator for the Wii is "Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII," which lets you fly in 46 different fighter and bombing aircraft.

    Pearl Harbor

    • Pearl Harbor has been the setting for plenty of films and computer games, and some of these can be found on the Wii's system. Released in July 2010, "1941: Red Sun Rising" includes a range of missions set between 1941 and 1942, including the Battle of Midway, Guadalcanal, and Pearl Harbor. Plenty of airplanes are available to fly throughout the game, including the A6M2 Zero and the P-40 Warhawk.
