How to Use XBox 360 Boot Disc

Xbox 360 consoles can be modified to run non-factory firmware on the DVD drive that allows for custom games and playing back-up copies of retail discs. You can use a "Slax" Linux boot disc to prepare your Xbox 360 DVD drive for modification. The Xbox 360 boot disc allows the DVD drive to connect to your PC and be detected as an attached hardware component.

Things You'll Need

  • Slax boot disc
  • SATA cable

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your computer and download the Slax boot CD file (see Resources). Burn the file to a CD-R and insert the disc into your computer's CD drive.

    • 2

Unplug all accessories from the console and disconnect the power cable. Remove the faceplate from the front of the machine then remove the outer case. Unscrew the Torx screws on the interior case and slide it open. Disconnect the DVD drive from the Xbox 360 then connect your SATA cable from your computer to the DVD drive.

Turn on your computer and wait for the Slax CD to load (it will boot automatically). Wait for the Slax connection process to finish (the screen will display scrolling text as the system installs the DVD drive) then eject the CD and restart your computer. The Xbox 360 DVD drive will be connected to your computer.
