Things You'll Need
Instructions
Pull forward on the faceplate of the Xbox 360 to remove it. Remove both of the gray vent plates, starting at the front and working your way back, by pressing in the tabs to release each section as you go.
Lay the Xbox 360 on its top and begin to push in the tabs at the back of the system to peel the plastic cover slowly from the system. Be careful not to just yank the system apart in frustration as the tabs try to lock back into place. Instead use your screwdriver or other tool to help you until you have completely revealed the metal chassis underneath.
Remove the six screws holding the metal chassis together. Turn the Xbox 360 back over, right-side up and remove the top. Now you have access to pull out all of the components one at a time. Start with the DVD drive, making sure to unplug both the power and data cables. Work your way down until you have completely cleared everything off of the motherboard.
Identify the ANA chip by looking at the two heat sinks. The GPU is under the smaller of the heat sinks and the ANA chip is between it and the video jacks at the rear of the system. The ANA chip is not covered by a heat sink. Once you identify the location of the chip, turn the board upside down on a stable surface.
Turn your heat gun onto medium (around 400 degrees) and use it to heat the back of the ANA chip, using slow small circles. To make sure that the chip has reached the threshold of 423 degrees you will need to heat the area for 10 minutes. Once the time has passed do not touch the board for 15 minutes, giving it ample time to cool properly.
Place the board back into the Xbox. Mount everything back to the board and system. Close up the case, replacing the screws. Reseal the plastic cover, plug in the Xbox 360 and start it up.
