How to Copy a GamerTag to an Xbox 360 Console

Xbox Live is the official online multiplayer matchmaking and digital content distribution service for the Xbox 360. When signing up for Xbox Live, you create a Gamertag that acts as your sole identity in multiplayer games and other applications. Although you can only be signed into the Gamertag on one Xbox at a time, you can copy the Gamertag to another Xbox via a storage device or using the built-in Gamertag recovery feature.

Instructions

  1. Move a Gamertag

    • 1

Turn the Xbox off and attach a storage device (Memory Unit or USB flash drive) to the corresponding port on the Xbox.

    • 2

Turn the Xbox on. Select the "My Xbox" tab. Select "System Settings." Select "Memory."

    • 3

Select "All Devices." Select "Gamer Profiles" and select the profile with the Gamertag you want to copy.

    • 4

Select "Move" and select the appropriate storage device. The gamer profile and all its content (including the Gamertag) will be added to the storage device. After the transfer is complete, remove the storage device.

    • 5

Connect the storage device to the Xbox you want to copy it to. The Gamertag will be listed alongside any other Gamertags on that Xbox.

    Recover a Gamertag

    • 6

Turn on the Xbox you want to copy the Gamertag to.

    • 7

Press the "Guide" button on the Xbox controller. Scroll to the "Home" tab.

    • 8

Select "Recover Gamertag." After the description, select "Recover Gamertag" again.

    • 9

Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the Windows Live ID information (email and password) associated with the Gamertag (as it was when you created the Gamertag).
