How to Tame a Unicorn in Oblivion

"Oblivion," the fourth game in Bethesda Softworks' "Elder Scrolls" role-playing series, includes various modes of player movement: fast travel, foot travel and mounted travel. Players can get a free ride through the main quest at Weynon Priory or purchase horses from stables throughout the land, but another creature can also be used for travel: a unicorn. The unicorn can be a most helpful mount since it costs nothing, resists damage and attacks enemies.

Instructions

    • 1

Raise your fame score by completing quests for the fighters' guild or mages' guild, finishing Daedric shrine quests, winning arena matches, working the main quest line, closing Oblivion gates and fulfilling various other quests through the game picked up from individuals. Although you don't need a certain score to find or ride the unicorn, the unicorn will attack you if your fame is too low.

    • 2

Find the Harcane Grove. It lies off the road just east of the Inn of Ill Omen. Take the road that heads south on the west side of the Imperial City, going toward Bravil. It should come up as a landmark icon as you get close to it.

    • 3

Prepare to fight the defenders in the grove, three minotaurs. If your sneak level is high enough, you may be able to mount the unicorn and ride off without fighting the minotaurs.

    • 4

Mount the unicorn and ride out of the grove to control it. Stand next to it until the "mount" command appears. Remember: mounting the unicorn will replace any mount you had until that point; you will lose a horse if you had one.

    • 5

Leave the grove or reload and gain more fame (or reduce infamy by completing the pilgrimage if you have the "Knights of the Nine" plug-in) if the unicorn attacks when you try to tame it. Attempt again after you have gained at least three points more fame.
