How to Connect a 360 to the Windows Media Center

The Windows Media Center application, pre-installed on computers running Windows 7, allows you to record live TV, arrange your music library and watch international online shows. If you are an Xbox 360 owner, it's possible to watch and listen to Windows Media Center content on your television by using your console. Before you're able to use this content on a television, you must connect your Xbox 360 to the computer. This is done by adding the Xbox 360 to Windows Media Center as an "extender."

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Power" button on the Xbox 360 to turn it on, or hold down the "Guide" button in the center of the controller for several seconds.

    • 2

Scroll through the "My Xbox" menu, and then select "Windows Media Center." Press the "A" button on the controller until you reach the "Setup Key" screen. Write the eight-digit key down.

    • 3

Start Windows Media Center on your computer, and then click "Tasks" at the top of the screen.

    • 4

Click on "Add Extender." At the prompt, type the eight-digit setup key you wrote down previously. Click "Next." The Xbox 360 is now connected to Windows Media Center.

    • 5

View content stored on your PC by selecting "Windows Media Center" on the Xbox 360. Highlight the file you want to watch or listen to, and press "A."
