How to Get iXtreme Firmware on the Original Xbox

IXtreme firmware is a software application that allows for "softmodding" (after-market operating system modification) of the Xbox gaming system. There are a variety of reasons for performing a "softmod" on your Xbox system. These usually revolve around using the Xbox to play games and video that are coded fro use with other proprietary gaming systems and computers. The process of getting the iXtreme firmware onto the original Xbox is fairly straightforward.

Memory Stick
Memory Stick reader with USB cable

Instructions

  Download the LT + v1.1 iXtreme firmware package folder onto your computer (See Resources).

  Plug a Memory Stick card into a Memory Stick reader and plug the reader's USB cable into a USB port on your computer. A Memory Stick folder will automatically appear on your desktop once the reader is connected.

  Drag-and-drop the iXtreme firmware folder into the memory stick folder.

  Press the "Power" button on the Xbox to turn it on.

  Remove the Memory Stick from the reader and insert it in the "Memory Stick" port on the Xbox gaming system.

  Press the "Xbox" button on the game controller to open the "Programming" menu on the television screen.

  Use the "Up/Down" arrow buttons on the game controller to scroll through the menu to "Memory Stick," and press the "X" button to launch. The LT +v1.1 iXtreme firmware package will automatically install itself onto the Xbox.

  Press the "Power" button once to turn the device off, then press it again to restart the device and activate the firmware.
