Insert the USB flash drive into one of the ports on the front of the Xbox 360 console.
Highlight "System Settings" from the "My Xbox" section of the Xbox 360 menu and press the "A" button.
Highlight "Memory" and press the "A" button. Select the USB drive from the list of memory options and press the "A" button.
Highlight "Configure Now" and press the "A" button to prompt the console to automatically configure the USB drive for use. Select "Customize" if you wish to set a partition on the USB drive, allowing all leftover space to be used as PC storage.
Press the "A" button to confirm that you wish to configure the USB drive for use as external memory, erasing all content on the drive during the formatting process. Once the Xbox 360 has completed the process, it will test the USB drive. Upon passing the test, the USB drive will appear as a "Memory Unit" on the Xbox "Memory" menu and will be ready for use.
Highlight your Xbox 360 hard drive from the "Memory" menu and press the "A" button.
Highlight "Games" from the content headings on the hard drive and press "A." Highlight "Gears of War" from the list of games present and press "A."
Highlight the save file you wish to back up and press the "A" button. Highlight "Copy" and press "A."
Highlight the USB drive (now appearing as "Memory Unit") from the list of memory options and press the "A" button to copy the save file onto the flash drive. Once the copy process has been completed, the file will be backed up on the flash drive. Remove the USB drive and store in a safe place where you can access it if needed.
