Audio Problems
When using an HDMI audio/video connection, audio output problems can cause an inability to hear sounds being output through a home theater. Failure to hear audio through an HDMI cable can be caused by a faulty cable or by digital audio output being disabled in the Xbox sound settings.
Video Display/Resolution Problems
When using an HDMI cable to connect and Xbox 360 to your home theater, games and videos may not output or may appear in a reduced resolution. If videos do not appear properly when played, but games work properly, the television being used does not support HDCP protocol required to play videos in high definition.
When all video output is displayed in reduced or distorted resolution, the video settings on the Xbox 360 may be improperly configured, the cable may be improperly connected or the HDTV's display settings may need altered.
Picture and Sound Out of Sync
Audio and video output are both sent through the Xbox 360 simultaneously through an HDMI cable, so the signals should not be out of sync with each other. However, certain devices can cause audio or video signals to lag. Connecting an Xbox 360 to a display through cable or satellite receivers, home theater systems and other devices can cause signal lag. In addition, audio signal output through another cable in addition to the HDMI cable can cause the audio and video display to not match up. Connecting the Xbox 360 directly to the television display using the HDMI cable can remedy such problems.
