How to Create an XBox 360 Faceplate

The front of your Xbox 360 has a removable faceplate that can be customized to reflect your own tastes and style as a gamer. Whether you want to turn your Xbox into an ode to the "Halo" franchise or a replica of Glados from "Portal," the faceplate is the place to start. You can purchase pre-made faceplates or create your own by adding images and designs directly onto the plastic. If you grow bored with your design, you can pick up a new faceplate and start again.

Instructions

  1. Removing the Faceplate

    • 1

Remove any discs from the console and power off your Xbox 360. Remove any USB devices plugged into the console.

    • 2

Grip the bottom of the faceplate directly below the USB slots of the console.

    • 3

Pull toward you to release the faceplate from the bottom of the console. Twist your hand slightly and pull diagonally off the console to completely remove the plate.

    Design

    • 4

Sketch your design onto the faceplate using a charcoal pencil. The design will appear on the plastic without damaging it. Rub off any mistakes with a damp cloth.

    • 5

Fill in a three-inch-square area of design using paint markers. The paint will hold on the faceplate and the markers will give you enough control over the details of your design. Allow the area to dry.

    • 6

Continue coloring in the design, one three-inch-square at a time until the entire faceplate has been colored. Allow the plate to dry completely.

    • 7

Rub away the charcoal design and outline any necessary parts of the design with a paint marker.

    Collage

    • 8

Print out images from your computer or cut out pictures from magazines.

    • 9

Place the pictures over the faceplate, arranging them into a collage.

    • 10

Cut out a 13- by four-inch piece of contact paper. Peel off the backing. Lay the contact paper over the faceplate and collage.

    • 11

Run your fingers from the top left to bottom right of the faceplate, smoothing out the contact paper to make sure no air pockets are present.

    • 12

Cut around the edges, holes and joints of the faceplate with a utility knife so that only the plastic of the faceplate is covered.
