How to Save Discs to an Xbox 360 Hard Drive

The Xbox 360's hard drive has many features, including the ability to copy or move data to other Xbox 360 storage devices such as USB drives or memory units. And, with up to 250 gigabytes (GB) of space, depending on the model, gamers can save hours of music and countless videos. Another feature Microsoft added to the hard drive was the ability to save entire game discs, which decreases loading times.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the Xbox 360 and make sure the game's disc you wish to save to the hard drive is inserted in the disc tray. The game may start automatically, depending on your console's settings.

    • 2

Exit the game to the dashboard if necessary. Press the Xbox logo button on the controller then press "Y" to log out to the dashboard.

    • 3

      Highlight the "My Xbox" section.

    • 4

Press "Y" to bring up a disc details page.

    • 5

Scroll to "Install to Hard Drive" then press "A." The game disc will automatically begin saving to the hard drive. If you do not have enough storage space, you'll be prompted to delete data off the hard drive to create enough memory to save the entire disc. If this occurs, delete the appropriate amount of data then go back to the disc details page and select "Install to Hard Drive."
