How to Delete an XBox 360 Hard Drive

The XBox hard drive stores all your saved game information, downloaded files and other saved files. If your hard drive starts to have errors, or even if you purchase a used hard drive, you may need to reformat it and start from scratch. This means that all of the files on the hard drive will be deleted, and you will be left with an empty drive ready for you to start saving files again.

      Turn on your XBox 360 and a controller.

      Select “My XBox.”

      Choose “System Settings.”

      Select “Memory.”

    • 5

      Scroll to “Hard Drive” and press the “Y” button on your controller.

      Select “Format” and confirm that you want to reformat the drive by choosing “Yes” when you receive the confirmation message.

      Enter your serial number if you are asked for it. The serial number is located on the back of the system.
