How to Replace an HDD in the XBox 360

The Xbox 360 allows the attachment of a external hard drive device (HDD) which you use to save multi-media files. The storage capacity of the Xbox 360 HDD ranges from 25 to 250 GB. Many of the original models of the Xbox 360 were shipped with the 25 GB HDD model, and you may choose to replace yours with a newer, larger model. The HDD can be replaced as needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down your Xbox 360 video game system.

    • 2

Turn your Xbox on its side, so the HDD is facing upward.

    • 3

Press down on the current HDD's release button, located on the side closest to the Xbox's front, then lift up to remove the drive from the Xbox.

    • 4

Place the back end of the new HDD into the Xbox's hard drive bay.

    • 5

Lower and push the front of the HDD into the hard drive bay until you hear a click. This is the release button locking the replacement hard drive into place. It is now ready for use.
