How to Softmod a Xbox With Ndure

The Xbox video game console can be modified to perform functions such as saving games and using programs created by other Xbox enthusiasts. Modifying (or ̶0;modding̶1;) the Xbox can be done without having to open it up, although any modification to its operating system voids the Microsoft warranty. You will need to use a computer to download the free Ndure modding program, along with a memory card transfer device and a specific Xbox video game disc. The ̶0;softmod̶1; does not require any mechanical or electronic skills and can be accomplished within two hours.

Instructions

Preparing The Ndure Modding Program

  Download the Ndure modding file to the PC̵7;s desktop (see the link in Resources). Double-click on the Ndure modding program once it has downloaded to decompress it to the Ndure modding program on the desktop.

  Attach the USB cable of the Action Replay device purchased from a gaming store into a USB port on the PC. Insert the memory card into the Action Replay device.

  Wait for the icon of the memory card to appear on the PC̵7;s desktop. Drag the Ndure modding program from the desktop into the icon of the memory card. Wait for the Ndure modding program to copy over to the memory card.

  Right-click on the icon of the memory card. Select ̶0;Eject̶1; from the pop-up menu. Remove the Action Replay device̵7;s USB cable from the USB port on the PC.

  Plug the Action Replay̵7;s USB cable into the USB port on the Xbox.
Modding The Xbox

  Turn on the Xbox. Navigate to the ̶0;Network̶1; icon. Select ̶0;Live̶1; from beneath ̶0;Network.̶1; Select ̶0;Account recover.̶1; Press the ̶0;X̶1; button on the game controller. Wait as the Xbox updates its operating system. Select ̶0;Quit̶1; when the window appears stating that the update is completed. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button.

  Navigate back to the Home menu. Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive. Put the Xbox Mech Assault video game disc on the disc tray. Close the disc tray. Wait as the Mech Assault video game loads into the Xbox.

  Select ̶0;New Game̶1; from the ̶0;Option̶1; menu on the Mech Assault video game. Play the game for a few minutes. Select ̶0;Quit game̶1; from the game menu. Select ̶0;Load Game̶1; from the ̶0;Option̶1; menu.

  Select the saved game file that is presented. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button to select the saved game. Wait for the installer menu to appear on the screen.

  Select ̶0;No̶1; when asked if you want to save the Xbox̵7;s operating system. Select ̶0;Minimum install̶1; from the list of choices presented. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button to begin the installation of the Ndure modding program.

  Follow the menu commands to install the Ndure modding program. Wait as the Ndure modding program finishes and reboots the Xbox.

  Select ̶0;Yes̶1; from the menu that asks to create a virtual ̶0;C̶1; drive. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button to create the virtual ̶0;C̶1; drive.

  Turn off the Xbox when the window pops up to say that the virtual ̶0;C̶1; drive has been created. Eject the disc tray and remove the Xbox Mech Assault video game disc. Turn on the Xbox to use the new features that the Ndure modding program has added to the operating system.
