About Gold
Xbox Live comes in two tiers: Silver and Gold. The Silver membership is free, while the Gold membership comes with a monthly cost. Xbox Live Gold is required to play online multiplayer in most games, use entertainment apps like Netflix or Hulu, browse the Internet, and take advantage of special offers and deals. A Gold subscription also provides free games to subscribers each month.
Gold Costs
The total cost of an Xbox Live Gold subscription depends on how many months are purchased at a time. At the time of publication, Gold is available on a monthly plan of $9.99 per month, a three-month plan at $8.33 per month, or a twelve-month plan at $5.00 per month. Xbox Live Gold also uses an auto-renew feature that bills the subscriber̵7;s card when the subscription ends. Gold subscriptions can be disabled at any time from the official Xbox website.
Live vs. PSN
Xbox Live̵7;s primary competitor is Sony̵7;s PSN, which is available on the PlayStation 3 console. PSN also has a premium service called PS+, but this service is not required to play online games or to watch Netflix and other streaming applications. PS+ membership offers bonuses in discounted downloads, free games every month and other perks. You still need a Netflix account, but do not need to pay for premium PSN service.
Setting Up Netflix
To add Netflix to your Xbox, download the app from the ̶0;Apps̶1; section of the Xbox dashboard. Open the app and enter your Netflix account details, or set up a new account if needed. Sign in to your Netflix account and wait for the app to sync your details. Once the sync is complete, you will have access to your streaming library on the Xbox console.
