Complete the storyline missions in the game. Many of the game's missions reward you with honor points upon successful completion and bonus honor points depending on how many enemies you kill during the mission. Follow the markers on your compass to find the next storyline or side-mission.
Perform good deeds in random roadside events. These are mini-missions that randomly occur during your travels, such as saving a carriage from bandits. Completing these missions will give you a small boost in honor.
Complete missions using the most moral option to receive honor points. Some missions require you to make choices, such as convincing a man to cheat on his wife or return to his family. By selecting the moral option, in this case having the man return to his family, you receive a boost in honor. Selecting the immoral option reduces your honor.
Wear a bandanna whenever performing a deed that would lower your honor, such as killing innocent people or stealing horses. You do not lose honor while wearing a bandanna, however you do not gain it either. Make sure to remove the bandanna before completing a mission so that you do not lose out on potential honor points.
Claim bounties alive instead of killing them. Not only will you receive more money, you will gain honor. To bring in a live bounty, use your rope to lasso and hogtie the criminal, then carry him to the local sheriff's office on the back of your horse.
