If you have a Gamertag that was automatically issued to you from Xbox, you can change the name for free. This is a one-time only chance to change your name for free on your Xbox system. After the first change, or if you created your original Gamertag, you must pay 800 Microsoft Points to change it. Changing your name is useful if you have someone bothering you on Xbox Live or if you are just bored with the name.

Power on your system and sign in to Xbox Live.

Select "My Xbox" and open your profile.

Select "Change Gamertag."

Open "Enter New Gamertag" and change your name.

Select "Done," and then choose "Yes, use this Gamertag."
