Microsoft's Xbox Live Internet gaming service provides gold members with access to the Xbox Live Marketplace, where you can download a variety of items, from playable demos and game videos to dashboard themes and avatar clothes. For the majority of items, you will need to buy Microsoft Points to exchange for the download; however, if you know where to look you can find a lot of free downloadable content on Xbox Live.

Instructions

Search Xbox Live Marketplace

  Turn on your Xbox 360 and sign in to your Xbox Live account from the dashboard. You will need to have Internet access to use the Marketplace.

  Navigate to the "Game Marketplace" heading and click the "Explore Game Content" tile.

  Select a heading from the list to begin searching for free content. Most game videos and demos are free to download. Also try looking in the themes catalog.
Earn Free Microsoft Points with Xbox Live Rewards

  Open a Web browser on your computer. Go to the Xbox Live Rewards website (see Resources).

  Click "Join Xbox Live Rewards" on the title page. When prompted, sign in using your Windows Live ID. This should be the same e-mail address and password that you use to sign in to Xbox Live.

  Scroll down the page for details on what tasks can earn you free Microsoft Points. After completing a specified task, the points will automatically be deposited in your Xbox Live account, ready to be used to purchase items in the Xbox Live Marketplace.
