How to Connect to Xbox LIVE Using Wireless

Microsoft&'s original Xbox video-game system helped rocket online console gaming into the mainstream with Xbox LIVE. Although Microsoft has shut down the service for the original console, Xbox LIVE lives on with the Xbox 360--released in 2005. There are several ways to connect an Xbox 360 to Xbox LIVE, including via direct modem connection or wirelessly with a router. If you choose the latter route, you will also need to purchase a separate 360 Wireless Networking Adapter (unless you have the Xbox 360 S, released in 2010, which has integrated wireless).

Instructions

    • 1

Lock the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter into the two holes to the left and right of the serial code on the back of the Xbox 360.

    • 2

Plug the adapter&'s cable into the USB port on the rear of the Xbox 360. This powers the adapter, and a connection will be indicated by a flashing green light. The flashing means the adapter is trying unsuccessfully to connect to a network. This is OK because you have not yet configured your console&'s network settings.

    • 3

Turn on the Xbox 360 and go to "Network Settings," located in the "System Settings" menu of the dashboard.

    • 4

Highlight and select "Configure Network" from the menu. Notice that "Wireless Mode" is available, now that you have plugged your adapter into the console.

    • 5

Highlight and select "Wireless Mode," then "Scan for Networks." The adapter will briefly scan for networks and will then deliver a results list.

    • 6

Highlight and select your desired network from the results list.

    • 7

Enter the network&'s security password if prompted.
