How to Get Xbox Live to Work on Hughes Net

Xbox Live allows Xbox users worldwide to connect for game play, chatting, and file sharing. Xbox Live runs smoothly on most DSL connections, but key elements, particularly game play, can become slow or even unresponsive when connecting over a satellite internet service, such as Hughes Net. Special steps must be taken when connecting an Xbox to Xbox Live through Hughes Net.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your Xbox directly to the modem or router with an Ethernet cord. Using an Xbox wireless network adapter with a WiFi router may offer a slower Internet connection, and when using Hughes Net that extra delay can mean you're unable to connect at all.

    • 2

Remove any other computers or gaming systems from the router when not in use. This will create a stronger signal for your Xbox by eliminating bandwidth use by others.

    • 3

Remove any obstructions that may be blocking the satellite and weakening your Internet signal. These include tree branches that cover or block a portion of your satellite. If your satellite dish is blocked by a more permanent obstruction, such as a house, you may want to move your dish to another location.

    • 4

Consider upgrading to a higher speed through Hughes Net. Currently the company offer speeds up to 5.0 Mbps for residential use, which is more than enough to run an Xbox Live connection smoothly.
