How to Play XBox Live Without an Adapter

A wireless adapter for an XBox can cost around $100. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to play your XBox Live without an adapter. One option is to buy an adapter from Linksys for half the price (see Resources). However, if you own a PC laptop with XP, you can use the same wireless connection that your laptop uses for your XBox with no additional fee, though some simple setup steps are required.

  Open the Start menu, scroll to Connect To in the right hand column.

  Scroll down to Wireless Network Connection.

  Select Properties on the bottom left hand corner.

  Go to the Advanced tab in the top right-hand corner.

  Select the Network Setup Wizard from the bottom left hand corner.

  Follow the wizard's prompts for sharing a connection.

  Run a crossover cable from your laptop to your XBox. The cable should connect to the rear of the XBox.
