Things You'll Need
Instructions
Find out what type of metal the button is made from by taking it to a hobby or jewelry shop. This will ensure that you do not damage a soft metal with your cleaning.
Brush the surface of the button with an old toothbrush. Do not use water. Dry-brush the button to remove a good amount of debris.
Use a toothpick to remove any dirt that has gotten into crevices in the button. Gently place the toothpick in the crevice and pick out debris.
Place the button in the sun to kill any mold or bacteria. Leave it for a few hours on a sunny afternoon in an area where it will not be disturbed.
Polish the button with mineral oil and a soft polishing cloth to finish the cleaning process.
