Cleaning and Lubrication
Fill a dish with gasoline, and insert the main movement works of the Baby Ben. Allow the clock works to run down, then brush thoroughly with a chisel-shaped paintbrush. Allow the gasoline to dry.
Disassemble the main movement section, then lubricate the various parts.
Use engine treatment on the mainsprings; grease on the ratchet wheels and cams; motor oil on most pivots; and clock oil on the balance pivots.
Smooth and polish the repeat lever and trip spring edge at the point where they meet; you can also smooth the trip staff cam and burnish the slot of the pallet fork before reassembling the Baby Ben.
Replace Springs
Determine whether you need to replace the main spring or alarm spring.
Remove the three screws attaching the appropriate barrel bridge to the clock.
Replace the barrel bridge and attach with the three screws.
Tighten Friction
Insert a screwdriver between the friction collets and back plate of the Baby Ben.
Place the back plate against a hard surface, making sure you are still able to maneuver the screwdriver.
Tap the upper part of the screwdriver with a hammer; this will lever the friction collets so as to tighten the friction and restore the correct timing of the clock hands.
