How to Clean Camphor Glass

Camphor glass was a popular gemstone for jewelry during the Art Deco period that lasted from 1920 to around 1935. The stone, also called storm glass, has a cloudy appearance that was created by treating it with hydrofluoric acid vapors. Camphor glass was designed to imitate rock crystal, which is quartz in its purest form. One popular setting for necklaces with glass pendants was to have the stone cut in a rectangle and set in a thin frame, giving it the effect of a starburst caught in a window frame.
